Jogjakarta, all the memories stored presentably

We Took It slow in : Jogjakarta (Daerah Istimewa Jogjakarta)

We should have caption it “we got nervous in Jogjakarta” instead. It was our first time traveled, 1 month after the first met. Unlike other big city in Java Island, Jogjakarta offers you different vibes. With the simplicity, dense traditional culture, and its folklore which is still sticking in this era, it’s a perfect destination to make your relationship stronger both with human and earth.

When. 3 days 2 nights in February 2016: 31°C daylight, 24°C night. Raining season alert!

Currency. Rupiah (IDR). During the time was US$1 = IDR 13.595. Not sure how much we spent, we have friends who borrowed us his car. They treated us and be at the wheel for almost 1 full day. I (Feli) think they helped me well as I’m afraid I’ll be awkward earlier with Exa.

Transportation. You can do car hire, online taxi services, rent a motorbike. Don’t forget to try strolling around with becak (our traditional transportation before there were motor) and andong/delman (horse-drawn carriage).

Borobudur Temple

Fun fact!

  • Jogjakarta was once the capital of Indonesia between 1946-1949
  • Sand boarding available at Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo
  • It’s a mixing bowl of tradition and urban life. We do have sultan whose palace called Kraton, take a walk surrounds then you meet traffic, hipster café, and malls.
  • Numbers of temple which once was one of 7 wonders of the world : Borobudur Temple which is now under UNESCO world heritage centre

Shopping.  The most popular souvenir will be batik and leather puppet. If you are talking for local market, well Malioboro street is the major shopping street. I think, if Exa did not accompany me, I can go half day myself!

So many things done in a little time. Our highlights were visited bunch of touristic places. Name it! We got Kebun Pinus Mangunan early in the morning to catch morning fog scenery. Tried to catch sunrise with Borobudur temple on it at Phuntuk Setumbu. Went for the hype gelato cafe in town called Tempo Gelato.  Sure thing we never forget to eat like local for breakfast, lunch, dinner!

Anyway here’s we can’t easily forget. Couple miles away from hectic Jakarta, it feels so safe and comfy. This feels you can’t easily describe with words but bear hugs! The way they brew black coffee in Warung Kopi Klotok – Pakem, tasting elder’s recipe like Lele mangut Mbah Marto – Sewon, amused with laughter and local night recreation in Alun Alun Kidul (South Square)We also managed to go to Abhayagiri Restaurant before our flight for lunch, food was OK since we think they sell the ambiance and view more. Thus it’s better to go here around 4.30PM-6PM, you can enjoy your meals and drink with Prambanan temple right from your seat. If you had enough of local food and carving for western food, numbers of cafe available around Prawirotaman street. We had our  Mediterranea Restaurant by Kamil, Exa with his favorite food; steak and Feli with hers; burger!! Duck burger!!

Adventurous traveler can choose for beach activities, mountain, or cave explore. The most popular and unique one is Mount Merapi tour. Oh hey whacky travelers, check out Umbul Ponggok!

Every corner in Jogjakarta worth a romantic snap. It represents the simplicity of how love can boast God’s handiwork. As for the locals crafts, you can catch a 1 day workshop of how to make puppet, batik, silver class and else.

PS. 101 turtle and mermaid reasons why you should travel with your partner : (before marriage) you can see how’s your partner’s spending pattern. Can you adapt? Boys, are you ready to pay the bills? Girls, try not to fake any!
